Paolo Nutini – Iron Sky

Charlie Chaplin - Final Speech from The Great Dictator

A very interesting rock song by Scottish singer/songwriter Paolo Nutini. I’ve seen it described as a “slow burner”, which I think is accurate. The trumpet and tenor sax parts are major contributors to this through building and repetition (which was very enjoyable to play, although started to labor on my chops after a while).

The song was a minor hit upon its 2014 release in the UK but was re-released with greater success in the Netherlands early 2015 following the Paris shootings at the Charlie Hebdo offices. The original recording features an excerpt from Charlie Chaplin’s final speech from the 1940 movie The Great Dictator and its strong condemnation of the political dictators of the time. The audio from that speech was sampled and included in our Bandhub recording too, for completeness.
