Jay & The Americans – Come a Little Bit Closer

I didn’t know this 1960s band before being asked to play this (and a couple of others from their playlist). To save on some of the grunt-work this one started as a MIDI file. It was a bit of a mess but I extracted the trumpet lines, made it human-readable and adapted it for use. I left the MIDI “sax solo” as written because it was kind of useful as the basis for my solo.

Jain – Come

Jain is a French singer/songwriter. This is a nice song and was apparently successful in France and Poland in 2015.

I’ve attempted to “fake” a loud French horn tone here, by playing flugelhorn and Harmon-muted trumpet in unison. I’m sure it won’t fool anybody, but sometimes you’ve gotta work with what you’ve got…

Be sure to also check out the extended version of this song 🙂

Herb Alpert – Spanish Flea

This transcription is limited to 2nd trumpet. I already had a 1st trumpet chart, so I didn’t need to transcribe it.

Herb Alpert – Tijuana Taxi

herbalpert02The Herb Alpert stuff is a lot of fun to play. In moderation, of course. 😉

This chart includes 1st and 2nd trumpet parts, harmonizing in those unique “Ameriachi” thirds.

Herb Alpert – A Taste of Honey

herbalpert03This one is only a trombone chart. I already had trumpet charts so didn’t need to transcribe them. But I needed to help out my good buddy on trombone…

Chuck Mangione Transcriptions

mangione01Chuck Mangione is, without question, the artist who most influenced my trumpet and flugelhorn playing style. About a million years ago (maybe a little less) I transcribed these charts for some of Chuck’s lesser-known pieces. I can’t recall which music scoring software I was using at the time, except that it was really clunky and difficult to use. And it was free.

These three charts still feature at the Mangione Magic website.

Diesel – Never Miss Your Water

I didn’t know this song before I was asked to play it. Quite like it now! This was an early transcription of mine; I wrote the part so it could be shared with a tenor sax.
